Carpeting
Carpeting has the largest exposed wearing area of your family room decorating components. Understanding carpeting construction allows you to more effectively compare qualities.
- Density: fiber numbers and thickness, higher numbers indicating more density.
- Twist: is the number of times fibers are twisted together. Higher numbers indicate more twisting.
- Weight: Weight of the fibers used to form carpet. For complete comparison, know whether listed weight is total weight or face weight.
- Pile height: fiber height from backing. Higher pile makes a deep, lavish carpet, but shorter pile height may wear better in traffic areas.
Why choose carpeting over other flooring for the family room?
- Sound absorption capabilities.
- Added insulation and warmth playing or sitting on floor.
- Softer surface than other floors.
- Multicolored patterns show less lint and dirt between cleanings.
Installation checklist
Recheck family room measurements to be sure enough carpeting ordered.
Standard carpet rolls measure 12 or 15 inches in width. Evaluate the family room floor to determine the least wear seam location.
Use a pad dense enough to suit your needs. Padding depth alone does not indicate its wear and use durability.
Save carpeting remnants after installation for emergency use.
Stain treatment for carpeting
Address stains as soon as they occur. Blot up spills with white towels (paper or cloth) free from dyes that could worsen the spot. Change towels as soon as wet through.
Use sufficient liquid to lift the spot. Excessive liquid may damage the carpeting, backing or pad. After using stain removal solutions, remove residue to avoid damaging the fibers or attracting dirt. Despite carpeting manufacturers - treatment advances, some fiber reactions aren't reversible. Have professionals remove the stained area and replace it with installation remnants or transfer carpeting from unseen areas.
